Product(s):InRoads, MX, GEOPAK
Version(s):08.11.09+
Area: Model Interoperability

Question:

When running the Create ICM command, I get the error message "Create ICM Repository Failed - No OpenRoads objects found in the model. Cannot create a consensus model."?

Answer:

This error will be given when there is no Civil Model data present in the DGN.

It can also be given if DGN files containing Civil Model data have been attached, but the Project Explorer has not synced yet to show the attached models.  One quick way to get the Project Explorer to sync is to place a line using the Horizontal Geometry>Place Line Between Points command.  Once the line is placed, the Project Explorer will update to show all the attached civil models and the line can be deleted.

Question:

I applied curve widening to my corridor, but now I would like to remove it. How can I clear out the curve widening?

Answer:

Essentially, the Curve Widening command simply facilitates the creation of horizontal point controls that are applied to backbone points. The end result of the Curve Widening tool is a series of point controls used to widen lanes and/or edge of pavement lines around curves. To remove curve widening, simply delete the point controls by going to Corridor > Point Controls.

Questions and Answers

December 2015 - See What I Mean? Visually Communicating Your Design with LumenRT

Question: What are the suggested computer hardware requirements? (ie, video card, memory, processor)
Answer: The best results will be obtained with a high-quality gaming-style graphics card (2GB video memory on video card and 4GB or more of hard drive memory).

Question: Are there any limitations with model size or road length?
Answer: Any limitations would be based on your graphics card. There are no set limits when exporting from MicroStation Connect 64bit.

Question: Can you slice through the display to create a cross section?
Answer: Yes, you can generate cross sections.

Question: What kind of man-hour effort was required to develop this model or a similar model suitable for public presentation?
Answer: Once you go from the civil application into LumenRT, you can create a model in a few hours. Then you can immediately create screen captures. You can create a LiveCube in under an hour. Movies will take approximately 8 hours to render.

Question: What kind of resolution is available for images and videos? Can LumenRT produce HD quality?
Answer: HD is available and up to 4K video output.

Question: How do I obtain LumenRT?
Answer: LumenRT is part of ELS and is available on SELECTServices for download. A 7 day trial is available. See the following link for download and installation instructions: http://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/microstation_visualization/w/microstation_visualization_wiki/25198.how-to-download-and-install-bentley-lumenrt

Question: Can LumenRT import VISSIM?

November 2015 - Creating Civil Cells

Question: If you have created a civil cell with a driveway placed perpendicular to the mainline, can the driveway be at a skewed angle when you place the civil cell?
Answer: Yes - in fact this is demonstrated in the videos at this link: http://communities.bentley.com/products/road___site_design/w/road_and_site_design__wiki/7064

Question: Can the radius defined in a civil cell be edited after it is placed into your design?
Answer: Yes, the radius can be changed as needed after placing the civil cell. Edits to geometry within a civil cell are locally contained in the active DGN. The civil cell that is stored in the DGNLIB is not impacted.

Question: When clipping with a civil cell, does the clip affect the elements to be clipped in their whole depth, or does the civil cell only clip the layers which intersect with the depth of the cell?
Answer: http://communities.bentley.com/products/road___site_design/w/road_and_site_design__wiki/23252.depth-of-civil-cell-clipping

There is a level in my file that is displayed in bold in Level Manager. This level does not contain any elements, however I am unable to delete it. Instead, I receive a message that states "Level is used. Use command "level usage <level-name>" to get more details".

Solution:

This file contains a Shared Cell Definition located on the level you are trying to delete, “Test". This can be confirmed by highlighting the level and selecting Levels > Properties. You can see on the "Usage" tab that this level contains a shared cell definition named "AHT".

If you wish to delete this level, you will first need to delete this shared cell. To do so, go to Elements > Cells in the MicroStation menu.

Toggle on the "Use Shared Cells" option. This will list the Shared Cell named "AHT". You can select this cell and click on the Delete button.

Once this shared cell has been deleted, the level can also be deleted.

Product(s):InRoads, MX, GEOPAK
Version(s):08.11.09+
Area: Basic Settings

Overview:

If you experience problems with your Graphics Display, it is most likely caused by your computer hardware graphics card. See example screenshot below - notice all the unstructured and confused lines in the display.

In this case, the issue was caused by the NVIDIA Graphics Card Driver.

Solution:

  1. Go to your Graphics Card manufacturer’s support webpage, download and install the latest version of Driver Software for your particular graphics card. Close down your Bentley produce and start it again. Did this solve the problem? If not or if the latest version was already installed, continue to Step 2.

  2. Change the computer Environment Variable to force MicroStation to use DirectX version 9.

    1. Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System\Advanced System Settings.

    2. Click on Environment Variables.

    3. Under System Variables click on New.

    4. Create a New System Variable

      Variable name:                  QV_D3DVERSION
      Variable value:                  9
      Click OK

    5. Back in the Environment Variables dialog, click OK

    6. Back in the System Properties dialog, click Apply then OK.

    7. Restart your Bentley product. The issue should now be resolved.

Installing MicroStation V08.11.09.714 on a machine that has a previous version of MicroStation installed

Current Revision posted to Civil Design Wiki by Jacquelyn Pettus on 1/22/2016 4:43:08 PM

Product(s):InRoads, MX, GEOPAK
Version(s):08.11.09.845
Area: Basic Settings

There is a potential issue with the install of the MicroStation 08.11.09.714 dependency build used by InRoads/GEOPAK/MX 08.11.09.845.  When installing MicroStation 08.11.09.714, you MUST uninstall any the previous version of MicroStation (.578 or .608 or .654, etc...) before you install.  It will NOT update the installed MicroStation version correctly.  The version in the Control Panel will reflect the new .714 version number, but the registry still lists the previously installed build number as the installed program.

This issue was originally found when a user reported that InRoads shortcut icon target was pointing to "C:\MICROSTATIONDIR\uStation.exe..." instead of the correct local path for the MicroStation executable "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\MicroStation\uStation.exe"

What happens if you have already installed MS .714 on top of .578 or .608 or .654?  In this case, we are able to uninstall the .714 version but previous MicroStation DLLs and registry entries still exist on the machine because the product code is different.  So we have a product on the machine that we cannot get rid of and need to be removed.  Here are the steps we followed to remove the MicroStation products and get the correct 08.11.09.714 version installed:

1. Go into the Control Panel and Uninstall MicroStation 08.11.09.714.
2. Reinstall the previous version of MicroStation (.578 or .608 or .654) from your Bentley Downloads.
3. Immediately uninstall this version of  through the control panel.
4. Reinstall MicroStation 08.11.09.714 from your Bentley Downloads.
5. Install InRoads 08.11.09.845
