Question:

How do I create a copy of civil geometry?

Answer:

You will need to use the command Copy Element which is located in the Horizontal Geometry section of the Civil Tasks.

This will create a new geometry with the following properties:

  • The new geometry will have an incremented name of the original element. (For example, if the original was "CL", the copy will be "CL1".)
  • This will be an exact copy with all the original rules.
  • The new geometry will have the same feature definition as the original.
  • All intervals (gaps) are retained.

If you toggle on "Do not copy rules", a new instance of geometry will be created with the following properties:

  • The new geometry will have an incremented name of the original element. (For example, if the original was "CL", the copy will be "CL1".)
  • All civil rules will be removed.
  • The new geometry will have the same feature definition as the original.
  • All intervals (gaps) will be removed.

Note:  The MicroStation Copy tool will create an element that is not ruled, not featurized, not named, and not true civil geometry.
